The Hidden Truth About Effective ADHD Treatment - Part 1

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) involve a collection of symptoms including inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsive behaviours. The term ADD has virtually been replaced with ADHD, since it includes two of the most common symptoms of the condition, namely, inattention and hyperactive-impulsive behaviour.

Only children who struggle with inattention and hyperactive or impulsive behaviours ALL THE TIME are deemed to have ADHD. For instance, if these symptoms are displayed at school and not at home, or vice versa, they are considered NOT to have the disorder. Unfortunately, this is where most of the misdiagnosis happens.

Perhaps the most difficult aspect of dealing with a child, a teen, or a spouse is not knowing what is causing the disturbing behaviour, and especially not knowing how to help. Unfortunately, most experts are as perplexed as everyone else and this should come as no surprise.

There are, however, many plausible theories:

One theory blames genetic predisposition, and studies are currently underway attempting to link ADHD to specific genes (1). From my perspective, based upon science and research, genetic expression if far and wide more important and valid than genetic predisposition, but we will leave this topic for another article at a later time. Another theory is exposure to environmental toxins. One study conducted in 2006 linked a mother's use of cigarettes, alcohol or other drugs increased the chances for ADHD in her child. They also linked the increased risk of ADHD in lead exposure and smoking during pregnancy (2). This also should come of no absolute surprise.

As is typical of the medical model, nutrition is often disregarded as a contributing element. Being a Kanata Chiropractor may not make me an expert on this particular topic, but it is my opinion that NUTRITION MAY HOLD THE KEY TO TREATING ADHD!!! It doesn't take an expert to tell us that food choices today for both children and adults alike are extremely poor. Is it truly possible to expect abnormal behaviour from a child who is fed, for lack of a better word, CRAP? These abnormal behavioural traits being that of what most medical experts would refer to signs and symptoms of ADHD! There are numerous literatures out there that support the hypothesis that refined grains, sugars, processed food filled with chemicals, juices, and soft drinks create these very behavioural traits. My question is: Whatever happened to pure water as a source of fluids for our children? We must also take into account the decreasing amount of vegetables and omega 3's in most of our children's diets. Vegetables provide the body with the essential vitamins and nutrients that we need for survival and Omega 3's support brain function, blood sugar metabolism, and childhood development to name a few. It is impossible to have a healthy functioning and developing brain without the critical ingredients it requires to do so.

If we look to the highly recognized research of Dr. Lendon Smith, who passed away some time ago, we find that he had been successfully treating and relieving ADHD symptoms with nutrition and dietary interventions for decades. Whatever happened to the continuing of his work after his death is questionable. He realized that drugs like Ritalin were not the answer for ADHD right from the start which I think should still be considered in today's society before it is so radically distributed to children. For years, drug companies have been churning out various medications to try to stem this growing epidemic. It is no great secret that drug companies have been producing mass quantities of medication to treat ADHD, the major players being, Ritalin®, Concerta®, Adderall®, and Strattera® before even considering changing the nutritional components of a child's lifestyle.

Stay tuned! In a later article we will discuss the effects that these very drugs have on the body and the activity level of our children. Until then, I urge you to take a look at your children's diet and make sure that they are getting plenty of the proper nutrients that they need for survival, growth, and maturity.

Head Lice Treatment - The Difference Between Nits and Dandruff

Have you heard that in some cases people realize even months after getting infested that they have head lice?

It's not that you recognize them as soon as you get them. It can in a literal sense take several weeks or a few months just before you identify this harsh truth.

The interesting part is, at times people mix up dandruff with nits and lice. They witness very small white chunks of dirt in a person's hair and successfully pass a consensus that the guy or girl has lice.

They don't know the main dissimilarity between nits and dandruff.

Always remember, if you have particularly long hair, then it's not really easy to see lice, because they survive close to your scalp. The finest way to learn about is to get your hair looked at by someone in your members of the family. Ask them to examine and see if there are any lice or nits in your hair.

The Likelihood Are That You Have Head Lice If...

Your scalp is itching. You can feel something running in your hair. You have red-looking lymph nodes in the front or back of your neck.

It will not be an effective idea to start head lice treatment only because you guess you have lice. You must be 100% positive before starting up any head lice treatment.

Anyway, you don't want to spend your time, energy and money on just one thing that's not really there.

Now...When you ask a particular person to proceed through your hair and look for lice and nits, they may perhaps possibly get baffled too and think of dandruff as nits.

There is Clear Differentiation Between Dandruff and Nits

Dandruff will fall off your hair promptly and easily, nits won't.Nits are securely hooked up to the hair. It's like as though the female louse uses an intense and effective glue to secure the eggs to the hair.

So, to analyze and uncover if you have dandruff or nits, you really should use a nit comb.

Wet your hair and start combing. If it's dandruff, then it will start to fall off. If it's nits, then it will not come off so easily.

If you have dandruff in your hair, then you don't need head lice treatment. Having said that, if you have head lice, then you must definitely go for head lice treatment.

So, don't rush. Look for the signals and symptoms or go through the infested person's hair. Even after looking, if you still can't figure out whether it is dandruff or nits, then use a nit comb to end the confusion.

Head Lice Treatment - Facts and Myths About the Harmful Effects of Lice

Here are a few myths surrounding lice:

"Oh! You have head lice. You can also obtain some sort of infection from them.""Have a look at this kid, he has lice. He is obscene.""I don't want to play with her. She has lice and they might be a health hazard.""Did you see this dude? He has nits all over his head. This person almost definitely doesn't wash his hair every day."

What could possibly the above remarks possibly mean?

There is no reality in the comments mentioned above. They are incorrectly related with lice and ladies, especially youngsters in academia, have to face mean and obnoxious feed-back because of such lack of knowledge. They're all myths.

Here are the facts that you must hold in mind about lice before starting head lice treatment:

Lice do not transmit any virusHead lice are not a health hazardLice don't make you cruel or disgustingYou can't control lice by shampooing your hair each and every day

We need to fully understand that Americans who get lice don't actually volunteer to receive them. They were carried through other people's head or frequently used objects that had been infested. So, it's not a wise decision to call them obscene or undesirable.

No-Nit Plan in Some Schools and Day-Care

In quite a few schools, there is a procedure that if a youngster has nits in hair, they can't join school unless there are no nits. So, until that little one gets clear of all the nits by going through a head lice treatment, she / he are going to have to stay away from school. Schools and day-care establishments are the venues from where children are almost certainly to get infested.

But the truth is, I don't like this plan. The primary reason is that when small children return to school, they have to cope with a new hassle. Yes, they get bullied just because of the fact that they once had lice in their hair.

Head-shaving is taken into account to be a possible route, but the fact of the matter is that most students don't feel comfy with it, most notably a girl. Most young people will feel unwanted in school without hair. Not to mention the smart comments they will receive from fellow kids.

Plus, there is no assurance that after the hair grows up, they won't get lice again. Just like other methods, head-shaving is also a short-term solution.

Head lice treatment is required when a person's head is infested by lice. Lice are not risky or nasty and they don't transfer any disease either.

So, be calm if you get them... and be cool with those who have them.

What Is Artificial Insemination And Why Go To Spain For This Fertility Treatment?

Living in Spain, I realised recently that there are lots of British couples coming over for artificial insemination and other fertility treatments here in Spain's Costa del Sol. My first thought was that with something so life changing why would you want to travel at all, but chatting to some couples it became very obvious why they decided to travel to Spain.

Many types of fertility treatments are very costly and a couple will often have to go through treatment more than one time, so it can add up to a lot of money. And although some of the couples whom I interviewed for this article said that money was the primary deciding factor, the secondary reason is that lots and lots of couples have had extremely positive experiences at clinics in the Costa del Sol, Spain.

In fact it is not only my research but the British Government's website for Human Fertilisation and Embryology that shows that many patients who travel overseas are very satisfied with the treatment and care standard. The site gives good guidelines on what to research before making decisions and travelling.

The people in this area of Spain are very friendly and when I first moved here it did remind me in some ways of the friendliness experienced in Ireland, where I am from, so it doesn't surprise me to hear of these positive experiences.

So if a couple are considering travelling here, one of the viable treatment options is artificial insemination.

Artificial insemination is offered when infertility is due to a mild disturbance in sperm production, cervical causes or a so-called unexplained infertility.

If it is a viable treatment for a couple, then artificial insemination works like this. A sperm sample is given by the male partner of the woman undergoing artificial insemination treatment. If the sperm of the male is not viable then artificial insemination by donor is an option.

Whether the sperm is from the partner or a donor, the treatment involves a sperm wash (that is, mixing sperm with a washing medium and centrifugation) of the sample, which will eliminate all but the best motile sperm cells.

These are then brought to the uterine cavity with a thin plastic catheter as close to the time of ovulation as possible. Often a light hormonal treatment is also included to improve the likelihood of pregnancy, as is done with ovulation induction.

The likelihood of pregnancy in inseminations is about 15% per treatment when the partner's sperm is used. Several attempts (3 to 6) are recommended, which will increase the chances of falling pregnant. When donor sperm is used, this likelihood is slightly higher, about 20% per treatment.

The warmth of the climate and the people, the cheaper costs and high standards are some of the reasons why a couple may choose to come here for treatment. Additionally egg donation is legal here, so if there should be any issue with the quality of the woman's eggs, than a donor could be found.

In conclusion there are a number of good reasons why couples should consider going to Spain for artificial insemination, as well as other fertility treatments. The first is that it is generally a lot less money than back in Britain and some other countries, the success rates and clinic stanards are high as well as the treatment getting plenty of very positive reviews from those who have already been to Spain. As mentioned the climate helps, as it is normally very pleasant.

There is a choice of fertility clinics in this area for artificial insemination in Spain, both in the big cities and the Costa del Sol there are some good choices. Always check that the standards and success rates are high before booking into any clinic for artificial insemination, or any other infertility treatment, in Spain or any other foreign country.

Jackie writes for Clinica Fertia which is a Fertility Clinic, in the Costa del Sol Spain. Specialist Scandinavian knowledge is employed at this clinic, which has a very good success rate. Artificial Insemination Costa del Sol is one of a range of infertility treatments offered at this Fertility Clinic, in Spain.

Medical Treatment for Vaginal Odor

A vagina which is healthy is always going to have a very discrete odour at sometime. Having certain odours at times is quite normal. But then if the vaginal odour changes and you find it smells strongly then it might just be a sign of an infection. If this is untreated then it might just cause, psychological, emotional and social stress as well.

A lot of women actually think that this vaginal odour is because of the lack of hygiene and they think that washing the vagina excessively is going to help but all it does is accentuate the problem even more. Even though very poor genital hygiene is the cause of the smelly vagina it, washing it, isn't the answer to the problem. The very first thing which needs to be done is that the natural acidity should be restored back in the vagina. But if you take excessive anti biotic it doesn't help.

You will have to restore the vaginal flora balance. The vaginal flora basically is consisting of various microaerophilic bacteria. Among all of these, lactobacilli are considered to be the main one who plays the role in protection of the vagina. The micro organisms help in preserving the acidity of the vagina. If you also wash the vagina too much the flora will get affected and the pH balance is disrupted.

The vaginal odour is caused by lots of things which include douching, excessive washing, use of certain chemicals like scented body wash, anti bacterial soap and so on and finally tight clothes. Also various contraceptives as well as foreign bodies can increase the vaginal odour and it can lead to various health issues as well. Also in a few cases if you have an unhealthy diet the odour can change, where if you eat a proper die then the condition gets fixed.

There are various treatments for vaginal odour. You will find different herbal remedies which attack the main root cause of the bacteria and also the recurrence. These help in balancing out the flora of your vagina and it even boosts up your immune system so that you can fight the recurrence. But the best way is always a natural way even though there are certain medicines available which can help in reducing this.

If you want to prevent it in the first place then there are certain things which you need to doing. First of all you will have to wear clean tampons and you will also have to make sure that you change them quite regularly. Douching should be avoided till it is completely necessary. It usually hampers the usually level of acidity in the vagina.

Also if you have a vaginal odour or you suffer from any sort of vaginal infection then you will have to make sure that you don't wear tight underwear and also pants. You will need to give your vagina room to breathe. The tight clothes actually irritate the vagina and can also increase the odour.
